UNITED PARTY'S POSITION.
PRIME MINISTER CONFIDENT.
DEMANDS ON PUBLIC FUNDS.
[by telegraph.—press association.] MOTUEKA, Thursday. Speaking to-day at a civic reception at Motueka, the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, assured the settlers that although the demands on the public funds throughout the country were in excess of the means at the Government's disposal this Government would be willing and anxious to meet the legitimate requirements of the district, for he could see that the Government was holding a position in Parliament which it was likely to retain. It was gratifying to himself and his colleagues to experience such enthusiastic receptions wherever they went.
