VISIT OF THE EMDEN.
THE USUAL COURTESIES.
COUNCIL TO DISCUSS SUBJECT.
A non-committal answer has been received by the City Council from the Internal Affairs Department in response to its inquiry as to the measure of hospitality which the Government expects the city to extend to the officers and men of the German cruiser Emden, which is due here next month in the course of a cruise round the world.
The reply states: —"In addition to official recognition by the Government the courtesy offered visitors from foreign naval Powers shall be extended." Apparently the Government is also giving the question consideration, for the letter adds that the council, will be advised further in the matter at a later date. Whether the city will extend the visitors a civic reception is to be discussed at the next meeting of the council.
