PAEROA-POKENO RAILWAY.
PRIME MINISTER'S LETTER. PERSONAL VISIT UNLIKELY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA. Tuesday. The Paeroa Borough Council has been informed by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, that ho had noted the representations made in support of the necessity for the immediate construction of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway, and he would be glad to bear the matter in mind for consideration when preparing future itineraries. He was doubtful whether he could make the visit personally, but would pass on the invitation to the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, for his consideration.
The Mayor, Mr. W. Marshall, said that on receipt of this advice further representations had been mado to Sir Joseph stressing tho necessity for a personal inspection of the proposed route of the railway by the Prime Minister before the next Parliamentary session. It had been suggested that on his next visit to Auckland tho Prime Minister could bo met at Pokeno and motored to Paeroa along the proposed line in the course of two hours.
