NEW SWIMMING RECORDS.
RIVAL TO J. WEI SSMULLER. The Olympic champion swimmer Johnny Weissmuller was not long in the professional ranks before two of his amateur world's records were broken. Last month Walter Laufer, of New York, for several years Weissmullcr's chief rival, was credited with swimming 150 yards and 300 yards in lm 24 4-5s and 3m 8s respectively, as against Weissmnller's listed marks of lm 25 2-5s and 3ni 12 2-ss. Laufer has also displayed striking speed over 100 yards by covering tho distance in 51 4-ss, which time is the closest to approach Weissmullcr's record of 51s. Weissmuller has accepted an appointment as Professor of Natation at Waseda University, Japan, and will act as national swimming coach for that country.
