BOXING RING.
FORTHCOMING MATCHES. The Northern Boxing Association has endeavoured to obtain the best talent offering for matches, namely Nat Hut - lon and Tommy Donovan, as we)] as Frank Taylor and Cyril Hume. The two Aucklanders, Halton and Taylor, are firstclass performers, and the association would have been sure of a good fight. The pair were principals at the Town Hall last July, and both won, Larsen falling at the hands of Taylor, while Hatton had little difficulty with Carroll. Unfortunately Donovan is unable to fight, as, according to advice received by Mr. .J H. Watts, secretary to the association, lie has two engagements at Napier. Mr. Watts is in communication with Tommy Dobb, an Australian feather-weight, who is at present in Wellington. Although not in the first ranks of the feather-weights it is understood ho holds a decision over Charlie Glasson, who beat Leckic at Wanganui, The Taylor-liurnc fight should be an excellent exhibition of scientific boxing. This will be Hume's first professional light, but liia aggressiveness will make up for his lack of professional experience. Taylor will have to fight hard to beat him. The Donovan-Urquhart fight, which was to have been fought under flie Taranaki Association early ibis month has been cancelled. The Christchurch Sports Club also endeavoured (o match the pair, but Donovan was not available. Urquhart is having an unfortunate start to his professional career. Jim Broadfoot is scheduled lo meet Hoy O'Brien at Palmerston North on June 3. This will bo O'Brien's second fight in New Zealand. The annual report of the To Awamutu Young Men's Institute pays a tribute lo the work of Mr. Frank Baker as boxing instructor. Mr. Baker has reason to be pleased as the Te Awamutu boys have done remarkably well during the year, especially C. Craig, who now holds the Tutchen liglit-wcighfc belt.
