STEALING FROM HOUSES.
LONG LIST OF OFFENCES. MAORI SENT TO PRISON. [ui! TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] KOTORUA, Tuesday. A Maori, Jack Hana, was charged with stealing from several residences. The alleged offences comprised a long list and extended over four months. Defendant elected to be tried summarily. Sergeant Hogan said Hana had broken into several houses and had entered others which he had found open. He did not seem to be able to resist the temptation to steal. The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, sentenced Trim to six months' imprisonment in the Auckland prison on tho first two charges, and to reformative detention for a period not exceeding three vears.
