COUNTY ELECTIONS.

* THE AUCKLAND PROVINCE. MANY INTERESTING RESULTS. WOMAN HEADS HOSPITAL POLL. SEVERAL MEMBERS RETURNED. The following are additional results of tho county council and other local body elections held on Wednesday:— WAIKATO. The chairman of tho Waikato County Council, Mr. W. Newell, was defeated in his contest for the Cambridge Riding by Mr. G. M. Watt by 263 votes to 127. Another member, Mr. S. C. G. Lye, was defeated by Mr. D. P. Laird by 191 votes to 117. The new council comprises:—Messrs. J. A. Sampson, T. Hinton, G. Smith, T. Procter, T. H. Henderson, G. M. Watt, and D. P. Laird. Mr. Newell had been a member of the council for 18 years and was chairman for three year 3. THAMES. Elections were necessary in four of the fivo ridings of the Thames County. The results were:— Hastings Riding.—McMahon, 73; McLoughlin, 50. One seat. Puriri Riding.—Co'urtney, 86; Cribb, 57; Thomas, 35. Two seats. Hikutaia Riding.—Brunton, 59; Alley, - 53; Winder, 40. Two scats. Tairua Riding.—Cory Wright, 21; Prescott, 20. One declaration vote to come. Mr. Prescott is the sitting member. A poll on a proposal to contribute £3OO toward the purchase by the Borough Council of an area of 3} acres at Waiomio resulted:—For the proposal, 175 votes; against, 212. HAURAKI PLAINS. Elections were necessary in two ridings only of the Hauraki Plains County. The other members were returned unopposed. The election of one member for each of the following ridings resulted : Patetonga Riding.—Mayn, 39; Phillips, 10. Horahia Biding.—McDuff, 59; Hicks, 53. PIAKO. The new Piako County Council is as follows: —Messrs. W. R. Lowry, W. F. Stark, W. McLean, F. W. Walters, H. Magill, W. C. Kennedy, W. H. Emett, J. M. Stewart. WAIPA. The election for the Waipa County Council resulted: —Messrs. A. Livingstone, S. S. Saulbrey, T. Church, N. Reid, E. F. Peacocke, J. S. Fisher, R. G. Speake, .7. T. Johnson, S. C. Macky, W. McGee, G. S. Clarke, A. H. Storey. RAGLAN. The Raglan County Council election resulted:—Messrs. A. Osbourne, W. A. H. Murray, J. H. Furniss, H. W. Wilson, J. E. Richardson, M. J. Corcoran, C. Johnstone, T. Parker, J. L. Y. Martyn, G. W. Vernon, L. J. McGuire and P. G. R. Taylor. MATAMATA There was a very heavy poll in the election of a County Council at Matamata The surprise of the day was the heavy defeat of Mr. S. H. Judd, founder and chairman of the Co-operative PigMarketing Association, in the Maungatautari Riding. Following was the result:— Matamata Riding.—W. S. Wilson, 189 votes; J. Pohlen, 168. Te Poi Riding.—P. Dee, 122; J. Bell, 107. Okoroire Riding.—W. H. Allen, 84; A. J. Willis, 63. Karapiro Riding.—J. Bruce, 81; C. H. Humphries, 53. Maungatautari Riding.—G. Middleton, 94; S. H. Judd, 34. Members returned unopposed were:— Tirau Riding: J. W. Anderson. Peria Riding: John Moir, Putaruru Riding: A. T. Morriss. Tokoroa Riding: K. S. Cox. Messrs. Moir and Morriss are new members.
