MAY DAY IN BERLIN.
PITCHED BATTLE EXPECTED. ALL-NIGHT POLICE PATROL. 300 ARRESTS MADE IN PARIS. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. {Received May 1, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON, April 30. Despatches from Berlin state that everything is. ready there for a pitched battle botween 1500 policemen and 1200 Communists to-morrow (May Day). At least that is the impression to be gained from the newspapers. The German Communists insist that they will hold demonstrations in spite of the prohibition. Car loads of police are to patrol the city throughout to-night. A message from Paris states that in anticipation of May Day disturbances the police have arrested 300 of the most militant Communists as a precautionary measure.
