PURITY OF MILK.
Sir,—ln the course of an address to the electors, Dr. Gunson is reported to have said:—"The milk supply of Auckland falls far short of what it should bo in tho matter of purity; there were polluted supplies seriously diminishing some milk which he admits is pure. I tako it Dr. G-unson was referring to the milk used at the Auckland Hospital, as he mentioned later that the entire food supply should bo supervised by the bacteriologist. Probably Dr. Gunson is very keen that the board should purchase those foodstuffs which are absolutely pure, a:ud I am in accord with him, but he should be careful of such statements, as they are liable to cast the impression that most milk is impure. I am prepared to show him reports dated from February 20 to April 29, 1929, sent from tho Department of Health, and signed by Dr. Hughes. I doubt- whether Dr. Gunson can produce a better report from any part of New Zealand. At all events Dr. Gunson should first inquire at what rate per gallon the milk is purchased, and he- will realise the vendors would need to charge a great deal more for tho article to suit his requirements. Up-to-date Vendor.
