NEW LYNN MAYORALTY.

RESULT STILL UNCERTAIN.

FIRST COUNCIL IN DISTRICT.

The election of the first Mayor and council of New Lynn, recently constituted a borough, was keenly contested. For the Mayoralty, Mr. C. F. Gardner has a majority of nine votes over Mr. 11. 0. Browne, but the position is still uncertain, as there are approximately 30 votes by declaration to bo considered at the oflicial recount to-day.

About 50 per cent of the electors voted. There are a considerable number of absentee property owners on the roll of 2034. One last seat on the council is still uncertain Of the six members of the old Town Board who stood for the council, only two have been elected. The Mayoralty. C. F. Gardner .. . • 292 11. O. NEW MAYOR OF ONEHUNGA. MR. MORTON SUCCESSFUL. ONE COUNCIL MEMBER BEATEN. Two former councillors contested tho Mayoralty of Onehunga, Mr. E. Morion defeating Mr. H. A. Stoupo by 160 votes.
