CUSTOMS REVENUE.

INCREASE MAINTAINED.

OVER £60,000 MORE IN APRIL.

HEAVY PETROL TAX YIELD, The increase in the customs duty for the port of Auckland for the first quarter of the year, compiled with 1928, is more than maintained in the April returns, which are £62,044 in excess of those for the corresponding month last yoar. The revenue for the fi;:st four months of the year is greater by £80,025 than that for the same period in 1928. The customs duty for April totalled £195,663, while that for the same month last year was £137,729. Customs revenuo and tyre tax for the first four months of this year, compared with 1928 and 1927, is shown by the iollowing table:— 1029. 1928. 1927. The tax tliis year has already produced £99,324, compared with £72,402 for the same period of 1928. The figures for April show an increase of £10,555. Beer duty augmented the customs revenue during the past month by £11,489, compared with £9288 in April of last year, and £9485 in the same month of 1927. THE FIGURES FOR DUNEDIN. GOOD INCREASE SHOWN. The customs revenue received in Dunedin during April is as follows, tlio figures for April, 1928, being given in parentheses: —Customs, £63,697 14s 9d (£46,814 13s lid); beer duty, £23,724 12s 8d (£24,169 3s lOd); motor tyre tax, £1144 18s (£l2lO 14s); motor spirit, £7590 (£5979 13s 8d).
