RECORD SEA VOYAGE.

ENGLAND TO NEW ZEALAND.

FAST TRIP BY TAMAROA.

RETARDED BY BAD WEATHER.

By completing the, voyage from Southampton to Auckland in the remarkably fast steaming time of 30 days BJ, hours the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's liner Tamaroa has broken all previous steaming l-ecords between Great Britain and the Dominion. She arrived at Auckland on Monday evening, and berthed yesterday morning.

The previous record was established by tho Tamaroa's sister-ship, the Mataroa, on her last voyage to New Zealand. That vessel's steaming time was 30 days 17 hours 28 minutes, the Tamaroa thus beating the record by approximately nine hours.

In these voyages both vessels proceeded to New Zealand via Panama. Both followed the winter route, which takes ships further south in the Atlantic to avoid storms and icebergs. This route is approximately 150 miles longer than the normal summer route across the Atlantic to Panama.

Steaming at an average speed of 15.25 knots, as against tho Mataroa's 15.2 knots, the Tamaroa experienced normal weather until within a day or two of the New Zealand coast. Head winds then retarded her progress until arrival at Auckland. Had the spell of good weather continued the vessel would have reached Auckland on Monday morning, thus beating the previous record by about 24 hours.

Both the Tamaroa and Mataroa, which were purchased from the Aberdeen Line by the Shaw, Savill Company, have made very fine runs between the Dominion and Great Britain since they started in the service. These performances have been considerably improved since alterations wore made to their engines about a year ago.
