MAINTENANCE WORKS.
NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY.
DECISION BY THE CABINET. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Cabinet decided to-day against the granting of subsidies on maintenanc.e works carried out by local public bodies. In making a brief announcement to this effect, tho Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, said applications Vid from time to time been received for baeli subsidies, but in accordance with tho Cabinet's decision subsidies would be available only for tho construction of works referred to and approved by the engineers.
