THE ACCREDITING SYSTEM.
Sir, —f am told that the accrediting system in Lieu of the matriculation is probably to come into force in the year 1930, and further, that the adoption of this system has, been urged by the secondary school teachers of the Dominion, Is the second point really a fact ? Has their opinion as individuals ever been asked ? I happen to know of two secondary schools where a large majority of the staff are opposed to the new measure. Before the system is definitely adopted would it not be wise to ascertain the opinion of each secondary school teacher ? If it has not already been done a postal vote could bo arranged, or the individual votes could be counted in each school and the numbers forlvarded to some official representing the teachers. Do the parents and teachers realise that in all probability accredited students who wish to pursue their studies in a university in England will find that their qualifications are not recognised, and will be obliged to sit for the matriculation before they can begin the university course ? Pro Bono Publico. .
