CHANGES AT NEWMARKET.

MANY NEW ASPIRANTS. The fact that the incoming Borough Council must necessarily be an almost entirely new body, gives an additional interest to the Newmarket poll. The retiring Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, has been re-elected unopposed, but only two members of the outgoing council are again standing.

Thjire are nine council vacancies and 11 candidates. These are:—Messrs. C. H. K. Mountain and T. J. Watts (sitting members),, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, Messrs. W. Hughes, W. J. Jafirey, T. Kay, T. C. Laths,m, W. Mason, R. T. Michaels, R. E. Newport and A. P. Wickens.

Newmarket electors will also have & vote in tho Hospital Board and Harbour Board elections, the borough forming part, of a combined district which elects two members of the former body and one member of tho latter. Being a compact borough,. Newmarket requires only two polling places, These are ai, the Municipal Hall, Broadway, and at Aitkenhcad's garage, Park Road. NEW LYNN'S PROMOTION. FIRST MAYORALTY CONTEST. Keen interest will centre on the contests at New Lynn, which is about to bo elevated from a town district to the status of a borough. There are four claimants for the distinction of first Mayor of tho borough, these being. Mr. W. L. Titchencr, chairman of thp Town Board, Mr. H. 0. Browne, Mr. C. F. Gardner and Mr. I. Hughes. Foi the six seats on the first Borough Council there are 11 aspirants. The candidates are:—Messrs. F- G. Calder, C. A. Sianly, R. P. Ward, W. J. Woodcock, J. Worthington, A. R. Woolley (members of the Town Board), H. Dove, S. J. .Tames, G. Lawson, A. F. May and W. Piatt. New Lynn has been granted separate representation on the Waitemata Power Board, and four candidates are contesting the sijat. These are:—Messrs. H. 0. Browne, I. Hughes, W. P. Rankin and W. I. Titchener. As part of a constituent district, New Lynn also has a t voice in the Hospital Board contest, in which Messrs. 12. IT. Potter, J. Rowe , and L. W. .Holt are standing for two vacancies, Tho polling places are:—Garage, corner Titirangi and Northall' Roads; St. Thomas' Hull, Hutchinson Avenue; Congregational Hall, Great North Road; St. Philip's Hall, Nikau Street; Room 3 (ground floor), Phoenix Chambers, Queen Street, City, opposite C.P.O. POLLING AT NORTHCOTE. TWO ISSUES FOR ELECTORS. Mr. A. E. Greenslade has been elected unopposed to the Mayoralty of North cote for a further term. He has also been reelected upopposed to tho Waitemata Power Board, this being tho first occasion on which Northcote has been given separate representation on the board. Mr. Greenslade was formerly one of the four representatives of a combined district. Twelve candidates, including eight retiring members, are contesting the nine seats on the Borough Council. The candidates are:—Messrs. C. H. Johnston, H. Weaver, Frank Wilson, A. T. Munn, E. J. Fraser, Robert Martin, W. C. Ellis, P. J. Ryan (sitting members), Harold George, P. G. Cross, C. J. W. Taylor and A. Facer. Northcote will also have a. vote in the election of a North Shore representative oil the Harbour Board, the candidates being Mr. J. Hislop, sitting member, and Mr. A. E. Greenslade. The Masonic Hall, Rodney Road, is the only polling place. CONTESTS AT ONEIIUNGA. NEW MAYORAL ASPIRANTS. Onchunga is required to elect a new Mayor, as Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, after one term of office, is not seeking re-election. There are two aspirants, Mr. E. Morton, deputy-mayor, and Mr. 11. A. Stoupe, a member of the retiring council. For the nine seats on the Borough Council there are 10 candidates, including four retiring members. Those nominated are:—Messrs. IT. Campling, W. C. Hill, P. R. Lipscombe, R. G. Speight (sitting members), T. H. Geraghty, F. W. Mountjoy, G. A. McKendrick, J. Pilkington, A. C. Tonkin and S.»Vella. As part of a combined district voting will also take place in Onehuuga in connection with the Auckland Hospital Board and the Auckland Harbour Board. The polling places are:—Foresters' Theatre, Queen Street ; old fire brigade station, Princes Street; Royal Oak Hall, Symonds Street; Te Papapa .Picture Hall; Baker's store, corner Athens and Mount Smart Roads; and the Employers' Association rooms; Swanson Stvect, city. OTAHUHU'S NEW MAYOR. COMPETITION FOR COUNCIL. Mr. 11. T. Clements has been elected unopposed to the Mayoralty of Otahuhu in succession to Mr. R. B. Todd, who did not seek an extension of office. Mr. Todd had been Mayor for eight years. There will be keen competition for the eight seats on the Borough Council, as 17 candidates are in the field. 'The nominations arc:—Messrs. J. S. de Montalk, H. •T. Hall, 11. R. Linkhorn,. G. V. Pearcc, C. R. Petrie, IT. Wills (sitting members), R. Barry, P. L. Bradley, J. J. Graham, F. W. Grev, J. Hunter, ,7. Kitto, senr., J. V, Lawes, 0. A. McDell, J. C. F. Paine, C. B. W. Seton and J. Tronwith. As part of a combined district, voting will also take placo in Otahuhu for tho election of a representative to tho Auckland Harbour Board. Mr. 11. R. Mackenzie, the sitting member, is opposed by Mr. Ebenezcr Allan.

Thci polling places arc:—Fire station, Great South Road; Kingsforrl Hall, Hall Avenue; Blackwell's Buildings, corner Great South Road and Albion Lane; Lloyd's Building, Mangere Road.
