RETIRING FROM FORCE.
SENIOR-SERGEANT SWEENEY. [by telegram.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. After 25 years' service in the New Zealand police force, 'the latter part ol which has been spent in Hamilton, SeniorSergeant Sweeney is retiring on account of ill-health. At a gathering this afternoon lie was presented with a wallet containing notes by Inspector Eccles, of Hamilton. Mr. Eccles referred to the efficiency and loyalty which had characterised the senior sergeant's service in the force.
