BOOKMAKER FINED.
PENALTY OF £IOO IMPOSED.
DETECTIVES RAID PREMISES.
TWO OTHER MEN CONVICTED.
Arrested by detectives, Henry Saunders, aged 31, clerk, was brought before the Police Court yesterday charged with having used promises at "No. 4, Wright's Buildings, Fort Street, City, on Monday as a common gaming house. William Cowsill, aged 23, glazier, who was arrested with Saunders, was charged with assisting in the management, while William Mcintosh, aged 32, clerk, was charged with having been found unlawfully on the premises. Pleas of guilty were entered by all accused. Chief-Detective Hammond said Saunders had just returned from Australia, where he had had a holiday. Detectives visited the rooms and caught accused tak ing bets on the Hamilton races. Previously Saunders had been fined £75 and £IOO. The man who had carried on his Tbusiness*'while he was away was fined £IOO recently. Nothing was known against Cowsill, who was Saunders* clerk. Fines totalling £ll2 were imposed the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt,, Saun ders being fined £IOO, Cowsill £lO and Mcintosh £2=
