CHARGE OF THEFT MADE. ACCUSED SENT FOR TRIAL. •"I have said nothing so far and I am not gointf to say anything now, except to plead not guilty," said .Alfred Ronald Monten, aged 50, ship's steward, who was charged in the l'olico Court yesterday with having stolen £65 belonging to John Deans. Accused was arrested in Wellington and ho had £52 7s Id in his possession at tho time. He was committed to the Supremo Court for trial. A week's remand was granted in the case of Walter Stanley Brown, aged 25, engineer, who was charged with having stolen cases of benzine, the property of William Petchell, of Auckland, who valued it at £7 7s 3d. Drink was said to have been responsible for the appearance of Ernest Heap, aged 36, enginedriver, who was fined £1 on a charge of having assaulted Harold Donelan, a friend, on Saturday evening. On a charge of drunkenness accused was fined ss.
Rigby Brooks Bellcrby, aged 36, sharemilker, was charged with having obtained £3 from Daniel McCarthy, of Auckland, on April 22 with a valueless cheque. Accused was remanded to appear on May 8, bail being allowed
