OBITUARY.
MR. A. J. HASZARD. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. Alexander James Haszard, aged 83, of Hamilton Road, Herno Bay. Born at Prince Edward Island, Canada, Mr. Haszard arrived in Auckland with his parents in j\lay, 1859, and iie resided in tho Auckland Province until his death. Ho was among tho first to go to Thames during the gold rusti and in partnership with his brother-in-law, tho late Mr. Charles Richards, he opened a store, which later grew into a large ironmongery business, opposite tho Governor Bowen Hotel. Tho business was sold in 1872 and Mr. Haszard went to live at Bombay where ho married Miss Kate Mackey, daughter of the late Mr. Hugh Mackey, a well-known farmer in the district. Several years later lie eamo to Auckland and until ho retired ten years ago ho was manager for Messrs. Bagnall Brothers, timber merchants, of Freeman's Bay. At the time of his death Mr. Haszard was a director of tho Parker-Lamb Timber Company, Limited. He is survived by his wife, two sons and five daughters, a brother, Mr. S. F. Haszard, of Epsom, and a sister, Mrs. G. W. Murray, of Remuera. DR. W. E. WILLIAMS. The death occurred at Suva Hospital yesterday of Dr. William Ernest Williams, of Diversion, Remuera Road. Dr. Williams was placed ashore ill from the Royal Mail liner Niagara on April 12, having left Auckland with tho intention of spending a holiday overseas. II« was recognised as ono of Auckland's leading physicians and at tho time of his death he was an honorary physician at the Auckland Hospital, having been granted leave of abseneo for his trip abroad. Ho studied at Melbourno University, whoro on graduating lie was honours man for his year. In 1899 he came to Auckland, going into residence at tho public hospital to complete his training, Later ho commenced privato practice at Pukekohe, and after spending some years there ho returned to tho city, where ho practised for many years. 110 is survived by his widow, who went to Suva when he became ill, two sons, Mr. L. C. Williams and Mr. Nigel Williams, nnd one daughter. Miss V. Williainn. The funeral will take place at Suva to-day. ;
