WET, BOISTEROUS WEEK-END.

SPECIAL WARNING ISSUED.

STEADY FALL OF BAROMETER.

Wet and boisterous weather prevailed in Auckland during the week-end, tho conditions being very changeable. The rainfall for the 48 hours ending at midnight last night, as registered by the Hera«ld gauge, Was .42 inches. Saturday was fine, but in the afternoon the wind freshened from the north and the sky became overcast and threatening. Rain fell in the evening and continued at intervals throughout tho night, accompanied by a strong wind. Yesterday morning there was an improvement in the conditions, but at mid-day camo fierce squalls, accompanied by torrential rain. The weather improved late in the afternoon, but last night tho outlook was very threatening. Tho boisterous weather was caused by stormy conditions in the 1 asmnn Sea affecting New Zealand. A Press Association message received from Wellington last evening stated the secretary of the General Post Office has received tho following special weather report:—"An intense cyclone is centred west of Cape Maria Van Dicinen and is moving southeastward. Expect stormy weather with cast to south gales. General heavy rain and flooded rivers."

The approaching storm is reflected in the barometer, which has been falling steadily since last Tuesday anil registered 29.25 in. yesterday afternoon. It is the lowest reading recorded at Auckland since October 26 last year. There was a slight rise in the barometer last evening, but at a late hour the reading was 29.20 in.
