SUNDAY PICTURES.
PART of church service. CONSENT OF CITY COUNCIL. Whether permission should bo granted for showing moving pictures in connection with services conducted by the Auckland Methodist Central Mission in a city theatre on Sundays was a question keenly debated at the meeting of the Auckland City Council on Thursday evening. The application was made by the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour. The Legal and By-laws Committee recommended that the application should be declined. Mr. .T. A. C. Allum said lie thought the matter deserved favourable consideration, particularly in view of the good work being done by Mr. Scrimgeour. Mr. A. J. Enlrican, chairman of the committee, said he considered that to grant the request would be to open the way to other applicants desiring to hold pictures on Sunday. Other councillors contended that special circumstflncos were involved in this case. The pictures were intended as part of the service and not as a general enter, tainment. Mr. Allum moved an amendment that the application should be granted, subject to the pictures shown being approved by the town clerk, and that courso was agreod to.
