NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.

GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS. BY ARCHER. One of the most consistent horses racing in hack company this season has been Maori Boy and the only time ho has failed to reach a place was in his opening engagement. Maori Boy has only scored once and has a sequence of five minor placings to his credit, bo that an early victory for him would be well deserved. Form makes his prospects at Thames read excellent and he should prove difficult to beat in his class, although he will have several improvers to meet..

Without winning. Envoy has run several creditable races to secure minor placings in moderate company this season and his efforts suggest that he is on the upgrade. The three-year-old will have to improve considerably to prove worth the 1025gns he cost as a yearling, but now that he has shown a little form he may bo worth consideration in hack sprints at country meetings. Envoy has engagements at Thames and is in with 7.1 in the Puriri Handicap.

The three-year-old filly Lucy Rose has not raced since winning at Te Awamutu early last month, but she is expected to compete at Thames, where she is engaged to-day in the Parawai Hack Hanc'jcap and the Hauruki Plains Handicap. When she made her last appearance she looked susceptible to improvement and it is quite likely that sho will be seen to further advantage in her coming engagements.

The latest exploits of Good Boy have demonstrated that ho has improved a good deal lately and his second to Eager Rose on the final day of the summer carnival at Ellerslie indicates that success will shortly conio his way. Good Boy has three engagements at Thames to-day and his prospects in each are excellent. The other morning he sprinted five furlongs attractively and he is sure to be in solid demand in whatever race he contests to-day.

When Flying Juliet finished close behind the placed horses in fourth position in the Grandstand Handicap on the final day at Ellerslie she registered a very creditable effort, ns the field was good and included most of the best handicap horses at the meeting. If Flying Juliet repeats that effort to-day sho will require considerable beating in the Goldfields Cup, wherein she will meet much weaker opposition, and she is not unduly burdened with 7.12.

When racing among the best handicap sprinters at Ellerslie High Finance notched two creditable thirds and on that form her prospects in the Flying Handicap at Thames appear very rosy. On occasions the Paper Money mare has disappointed when expected to race well, but she seems more solid now than previously and can be expected to make u bold bid for honours to day.

Since his fall at Takapuna some weeks ago Le Choucas has not performed as well ns expected and only shaped moderately in his races at Eilerslie. There may have been some excuse for him on the final day, when lie only arrived on the course a few minutes before starling time. Le Choucas lias not yet won at a mile and u-quarter, but he would only require to repeat his best to bo troublesome at the finish 6£ the Goldfields Cup. The small field to-day should bo to his liking and he will have a. host of admirers, although on recent form his chance of beating Flying Juliet does not look good. Still he might accomplish the task.

Having her first run for some months, Archeno made a respectable showing in a useful field of milers at the summer carnival at. Eilerslie to finish sixth. In the meantime she has sprinted nicely and it will not be surprising to see her race prominently in her engagements at Thames. Archeno has reached an age where improvement in her form is unlikely, but she seems to have benefited considerably by the spell she had at the end of last season and may race as well as ever this term.
