In the Police Court to-day Robert Mackav, aged 48, pleaded not guilty to a charge of obtaining 421b. butter, knowing it to have been stolen. The police stated that accused, who had a small confectionery business, had butter offered him bv a message boy employed by a restaurant at Is per lb. After buying two or three lots he asked where ii, came from. The boy said it had been stolen from a warehouse by a friend with whom he was sharing the proceeds. Accused nevertheless bought another lot of butter.
A fine of £2O was imposed, in default three months' imprisonment.
