BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

THE KINKS COMPETITION

ANOTHER DEPRESSING DAY.

SOME UNEXPECTED DEFEATS

FIFTH AND SIXTH ROUNDS

JbY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Friday.

Tlir Dominion bowling tournament was continued to-day ' n very unpleasant weather. For the Inst three days while the championship rinks have been in progress Wellington has suffered from one of these persistent "low pressures." together with its depressing concomitants, windv, misty weather under a pall of grev clouds. Owing to the misty rain that fell this morning a start was not made with the 11th round of the championship rinks until 10.30 a.m. On that account the council decided to make the games for the day 21 heads instead of or, \ sensational finish was seen on the Eastbourne green in the game between Lambert Thorndon) and Pilkington (Hamilton). With one head to go Lambert had a lead of six points. When the skips ■went down on the 'last head I'ilkington was lving sis'. He drew with his first, making seven. Lambert tried to draw but just missed. Pilkington drew with his last bowl, making eight. Lambert was just narrow with his last, making no alteration in the position, and Pilkington won the game bv two points. Defeat of Walker. A surprise in section B in the fifth round was the defeat of Reid (Lyall Bay) by the veteran Land (Hastings). This was the latter skip's first win. North (Te Awamutu) suffered his third defeat when he went d"wn to Gray (Kelburn) by a single point in the fifth round. In the same section Snaddon (Victoria), with only one previous win, scored a decisive victory over Wood (V.8.A.). , The sensation of the sixth round was the defeat of Maxwell Walker (Auckland) by T. Yates (New South Wales). The latter, who loves the game more for the pleasure than the victory, scored only seven points in the third round (at Kelburn), forfeited his game in the fourth round, and his fate seemed to be a foregone conclusion when he met Walker, but to the surprise of all he pulled off a win in the final head. If conditions to-morrow are similar to what they were to-day, the games will probably consist of 21 heads instead of 25. Results of Day's Play.
