GIANT TEETH DISCOVERED.
TWENTY THOUSAND YEARS AGO
A discovery which casts an entirely new light on tho habits of Africa's ancient mammoths has been made in tho Pilaiuhberg mountains, near Rustenburg, Transvaal, where two mammoth teeth, surrounded by Stone Age axe-heads, have been unearthed. The spot may ultimately prove to be a prehistoric settlement. Professor Dart, discoverer of the Taungs skull in Rhodesia, has examined tho teeth, and announces that they belong to a spec ies hitherto unknown in South Africa. Ho attaches great importance to the find, ae this is tho first evidence of the existence of mammoths in this country outside tho Vual River watershed I'ilandsberg is a mountainous district in the Limpopo watershed, and (he discovery tb.is proves that mammoths were equally at. homo in the mountains and in the low-lying districts. Professui Dart is carefully investigating the implements found near the teeth, and has hope of being able to prove (lie presence o; mankind in South Africa contemporary with mammoths at a period 12,000 to 20.000 years ago.
