In tlic international (cnr.is tournament, New South Wales defeated Britain by seven rubbers, 20 sets and 178 games, to five rubbers, 16 sets and 171 games. Yesterday's results were:— Singles: Collins (England), beat Willard, 6—4, I—6, 6—3; Crawford (N.S.W.), beat Austin, 6—2, 6—4; Gregory (England), beat Hopman, 6 —B, 6—2, 6—4. Doubles: Kalms and Willard (N.S.W.), beat Iliggs and Collins, 7—5, 6—4, I—6, 5—7, 6-4. The weather was windy and cold. The best match was that between Uopman and 1 Jio British captain, Gregory. The latter's smashing volleying was forceful and clever. Ifo mado the game fast. Austin had an off day, and lacked vim. Ifo needs a spell. Collins again proved solid and determined. The strength of the New South Wales men in the doubles, however, carried them to victory.

At tho Sydney Stadium last evening Harry Mason (11 stone), formerly lightweight boxing champion of England, was knocked out in the first round of a bout with Wesley Ketchell (list ljlb.), an American middleweight. The onlookers hooted loud arid long. Ketchell knocked out his opponent with a heayy blow below the heart. At the Leichhardt Stadium on Friday evening, Tommy Barker (Bst 131b.), former featherweight champion, and Charlie Glasson (Bst 111b.), fought a drawn contest of 15 rounds. At the Melbourne Stadium last evening, Dick Congress (Bst 131b.), narrowly beat Bob Delaney (Bst 121b.), of Sydney, on points.

Fred Lindrum, in his billiards match with Inman yesterday afternoon, did not reach his top form. Often he had to strugglo to gain a top of the table position. He spoilt cne or two promising situations. In the evening ho improved greatly, and made four big breaks. One included 41 close cannons. llis day's total was 1436 to Inman's 976. This afternoon Lindrum seemed to be too eager to excel the previous evening's excellent display. lie took liberties which spoilt several of his visits to the table. Ininan, who four times- left Lindrum double-baulks, gave a fine display this evening. Lindrum mado the best of every opening, and was unlucky to spoil the biggest break of the day by miscuing a little screwback cannon. Inman leads at the halfway stage by 646 points. CRICKET IN SYDNEY. GRADE MATCHES CONTINUED. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received November 25, 5.25 p.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 25. The grade cricket matches in Sydney wqre continued yesterday. Batting for Balmain against Paddington, Ireland made 215 runs, Hunt, 61 not out. For Petersham against St. George, Scddon made 94. For Northern District against Gordon, Loder scored 86. Bowling for Western Suburbs against Manly, Dupain took six wickets for 31. For Cumberland against Handwick, Stenmark took six wickets for 53, and for University against Mosman, Cooper took five wickets for 78.

MELBOURNE COMPETITIONS. Australian nnd N.Z. Press Association. (Received November 23. 11.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 25. In the Melbourne grade cricket competitions yesterday Sand ford, batting for Melbourne against Collingwood, made 200 not out. For University against South Melbourne, Rigg made 106, for Fitzroy against Prahran, Liddicut mado 109 not out, and for Carlton against St. Hilda Sutherland niado 103.
