ROSS SEA WHALING. NEW COMPANY IN BRITAIN. United Service! LONDON, Nov. 22. A British company is being formed with a capital of £350,000 for whale fishing in the Ross Sea. It is negotiating to buy the White Star steamer Runic,, 12,663 tons, for conversion to a floating factory. The" oil will bo brought to Europo for margarine, soap and lubricating oil. The company will be the third British enterprise operating in tlio Antarctic. Norwegians will control the technical processes, with the assistance of men who were formerly in the British Navy. CITY FREEHOLD SECTIONS. PASSED IN AT £22,500. - / After attracting a bid of £22,500 three city freehold allotments with frontages to Albert and Elliott Street and containing a two-storev brick warehouse wero passed in yesterday, tho offors not reaching the seller's reserve. Tho property, which is owned by Mr. I. Kahn, of Sydney, has a frontage to Elliott Street of a little over 43 links and to Albert Street of 86 links, the total area being 33.3 perchoi, Tho building is on tho Elliott Street line, the sections facing Albert Street being clear. The sale was conducted by Roberts and Company, before a good bench of buyers. Bidding started at £IB,OOO and rose by bids of £SOO to £22,500. The terms of sale were 2£ per cent,, on tho fall of the hammer, per cent, within ono month and tho balance on first mortgage for five years at 6 per cent. Immediately after the' bidding ceased negotiations were commenced for the sale of one of the vacant sections by private treaty.

BRUNNER COLLIERIES. ISSUE OF UK DEN TURKS. In order to complete llie payment for plant and to undertake a general development scheme, the directors of Dimmer Collieries, Limited, with the head gflico in Wellington, has docided to invite subscriptions for 1000 debentures of £25 each. The debentures will bo issued for a poriod of ton years from November 30 next, with the right of the company to repay ut any time after the expiry of five years. Debenture-holders will havo the right at any time within three years from the date of the debenture, to convert half their holding into ordinary shares. The security will bo a first mortgage on the company's undertaking, known as the Wallsend mine, described as "a proved initio on tho eve of production," with an estimated output for tho first year of from 40.000 to 50.000 tons. Tho mine is situated six and a-half miles from Greymouth,- and tho coal is doscribod as a hard, bituminous product with an established reputation for gas, smithy work and steam-raising purposes. Tho organising underwriters aro the New Zealand Underwriting and Development Corporation, Limited. Tho present paidup capital of tho company is £51,105. LANDS FOR SELECTION. The North Auckland Lands and Survey Office announces that 1862 acres of inferior lands in tho North Auckland district are now open for selection, under section 223 of the Land Act, 1924.
