In the Puketoi Hurdles, the opening event at the Otaki Meeting to-day, Novar. of coarse, was favourite, - but at a liberal jirico nil things considered. Bed Bank's second dividend was better than that of tho winner. Novar and Ked Bank drew clear crossing the top from Diana's Lnd, Iloromea, Abisogne and Grand National. Novar led over the last fence well clear of Red Bank and Diana's Lad, and won ensily by five lengths. Bod Bank beat Diana's Lad by two lengths. Lady Gay was fourth and then came Grand National. Panorama and Iloromea. Novar outclassed the field. Ked Bank and Diana's Lad went fair races and Iloromea will be improved with the race. The Manuao Trial Plate saw Richfield backed down to odd? on, with Baskier also solidly supported. Arikinui being at a long price. Baskier and Arikinui led into the straight, with Richfield moving up fast. Richfield came on tr win easily by two lengths from Arikinui, who beat Baskier by three lengths. Wyeford was fourth and then came Shot Silk, Kiriuna, MoutOa Fume and Cloyne. Richfield scored very easily and Arikinui finished just too well for Baskier who began from an outside position. Shot Silk also had an unfavourable position.

In t,ho Otnki Hack Handicap Discourse and Uor7 Mor curried practically half the money invested. Holus Bolus led out while Discourse nnd Rory Mor were slow away. Acred came through at the home turn wheie the field bunched, nnd Kotowhcro ranged up on tlic outside. Il'otowhero looked tho winner until Discourse, hard ridden, shot up ori the rails, and she beat Hotowhero honie by three-quarters of a length. Acred wim two lengths away third, with Ilory Mor fourth Then came Moiitoa Wonder, llolus Bolus and Gasnapper. Acred and Rory Mor were beaten only in the final pinch.

For the Te Ore Mukiterore Stakes Vcrtigern was ;i solid favourite with Avro second choice in a one-dividend field. Royal Game and Black Mint being a bracket. Avro a id Imperial Spark led Vcrtigern, Royal Game and Shining Armour for half n mile. Shining Armour then lost his place and Vertigern commenced his run just at tho turn Ito failed to get to Avro, who held him of! to win by a head. Black Mint was two lengths away, with Royal Game and Imperial Spark next. Vertigern, who will be a fit horse for the holiday meetings, was unlucky to lose, although Avro stayed on well. In tho Pukekaraka Hack Handicap Veronese was backed down to odds-on, and she made no mistake. Australis jumped out first, but Quantum led Australia and Second

Thought across the top from Veronese, Argue, Rash and Mark Mint. Veronese came up between Quantum and Australia at the turn, and she soon settled them, winning well by three-quarters of a length from Australia. Quantum was n length away, then coming Argue. Green Field, Thrift, Chief Singer and Itnsh. Veronese won decisively. Australia finished just too well for Quantum, who began from an outsido barrier position. In the Rekoreke Handicap Moutoa Treasury was a hot favourite, with Iveddar second choice, and Callanmoro at u great price. Callanmoro began smartly but a furlong from homo tho whole five were in line. Callanmoro camo oti' to win by three-quarters of a length from Moutoa Treasury, who heat Helotis by half a length. Keddar just beat Royal Duke home with a good run on tho rails, Callanmore won rather decisively. .No excuse can be offered for Moutoa Treasury's failure.

In tho Rahui Hack Handicap Metellus was pronounced first choice, with Skyrider aiid Bourso tho next best backed. Borsalene and Airtight led across tho top and to tho turn from Bourse and Skyrider, with Metellus and Kulos next. Bourse came through at tho turn, with Meiellus, tho pair coining away to fight out the finish. Bourse won by half a length. t Two lengths away Borsalene, Kalos and Airtight, almost in lino, were next, with Homo Made heading the remainder. Bourse won her first race and just beat the 6oniewhat unlucky Metellus. Borsalene should soon win a rac» Kalos, as usual, was unlucky. In tho Wairongomai Handicap Kilporon, Maui Bonhommo and Huikai wcro all solidly backed in that order. Monaghan went to the front crossing the top from Paul .Lucerne, Deluge. Vigilance, Kilperon and Maui Monoghan was still in front at tho turn, where tho field bunched Vigilance and Ivilperon appeared to bo doing beat u furlong from homo, but then Huikai came fast 011 tho outsido, to win by a length from Vigilance, who beat Decoy Bird by a head Kilporon was fourth, and then canio Maui, Monaghan and Paul Lucerne Huikai won convincingly and Vigilance went a solid race.
