The following resolution, voicing opposition to war as a means of .settling disputes, was passed by the South Auckland District/ Methodist Synod last evening:— "Realising the, evil nature of the usual causes, conditions and results of war, we regard it as the most inadequate, disastrous and wrong method of ending international disputes. Wo warn all against the tendency to extend to war itself the admiration which belongs only to the qualities of courage and self-sacrifice, qualities for which men may lind ample scope in times of peace. "Wo believe peace can be secured only as adequate machinery for the settlement of disputes is set up. Wc shall, therefore, co-operate with the League of Nations (Jnion in urging this Dominion to give the fullest, support to the work of t lie League of Nations." A resolution was carried urging tli«i united Churches to take steps to have the necessary legislation passed for affording adequato protection to Loua-Gdo con scicntious objectors.

MILITARY TRAINING. ABOLITION URGED. Opposition to the present system of military training was expressed at the opening of the Auckland District Methodist Synod yesterday, when a resolution was passed urging the Government to abolish tho present system of compulsory military training as a practical expression of cooperation with the spirit of disarmament. Recognising the valuo of discipline to the young, the synod recommended tho substitution of compulsory physical training instead of tho present military system.
