GIFTS FOR MISSION FIELD.

ONE DONATION OF £IOOO.

The Auckland District Methodist Synod opened its session yesterday in tho Pitt Street Methodist Church. Tho president of conference, ltcv. W. J. Elliott, occupied the chair.

District property mailers wcro considered at the opening session, and a normal development was shown. Tho Conncxional Firo Insurance Board reported tho acceptance of new risks amounting to £15,555. Tlio report of the Solomon Islands Mission showed this year's incomo was practically the, same as that last year. Among tho special gifts received were a donation of £IOOO from Mr. James Trounson, of Northcote, to bo added to tho working capital fund of the mission, £6OO from an anonymous Wanganui donor for a much-ueodcd launch, and a Diesel engine worth over £SOO for tho launch at Belua from Auckland Methodists. Two organs, a microscopo and a radio set had also been donated.

It was recommended that a special missionary effort bo niado next year to raise £20,000 for tho provision of medical facilities, to provido for extension of tho work at Bougainville, and to eliminate tho present largo deficit. Tho report of tho Theological College, which was presented hy Rev. Dr. C. 11. Laws, showed that 20 students had been in residence during the year. Very satisfactory work had been done. Tho synod expressed a deep sense of indebtedness to Mr. A. C. Canghey for tho uso of tho Dunholmo properly for collego purposes for 17 years on most generous terms. The new collego was now completed and would bo opened at tho-next conference. While the entire cost of the building had been met, a furl her sum would bo required for furnishing laying out the. grounds and completely paying off the cost of tho site. Excellent work at tho school at Pacrata was shown in tho report of tho Wesley College Board. Tho school had a full roll number and the staff had been strengthened during the year. The memo, rial chapel wns to be opened at the conference in February. An address was given by the Rev. V. Lo C. Bureh, on furlough from tho Solomon Islands, who urged tho need of a greater missionary spirit in tho Church.

SOUTH AUCKLAND DISTRICT. GATHERING• AT THAMES. [UY 1 F.I.EGRAI'II. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Thursday. The South Auckland District Methodist Synod concluded its session this afternoon. A commission was appointed to investigate tho advisability of altering the circuit boundaries and the appointment of an additional agent in the Te KuitU Otorohanga district. Those elected were:— Revs. Burley, Paris, Enticott, Taylor, Sage and Hall, and Messrs. F. M. Walters, 11. Walters and P. Rushlon, together with the circuit stewards of Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui. He v. A. A. Harris was thanked for his services as district young people's secretary and his reappointment was recommended.

A remit from the home mission department that Rev. C. Strand be appointed as supply for two years as assistant to the general superintendent of home missions was agreed to. Rev. A. J. Seamer was recommended for reappointment to (lie position of general superintendent of home missions at the expiration of his present term of ofTice in 1930.

Rev. S. Henderson was elected representative to the Dominion conference, with Rev. E. E. Sage, as substitute. Rev. Sage was elected district secretarv for 1929.
