BEAUTIFYING COUNCIL.
SOUTH ROAD IMPROVEMENTS. The Great Rcmth Road Beautifying Council met last evening, the chairman Mr. G. W. Hutchison, presiding. Delegates from 11 societies were present. A sub-committee was set up (o wait upon Mr. J. W. Mawson, director of town-planning, asking him to inspect the Great South Road, and to make suggestions for its heautifieation. Mr D A llav, of the Institute of Horticulture, is to he asked to accompany him and to give a general report upon tho whole road. It was decided to approach tho commissioner of Crown lands with tho object of obtaining a portion of tho triangle at the junction of the Pamnure and Great South Roads from tho Government for beautifying purposes. As no further meetings will he held until next March, a recess committee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs. 11. C. Gnerson, C. L. Mcintosh and F. 11. Leonard, was appointed to deal with any matters raised,
