HOSTEL AT TONGARIRO.

PROPOSALS OF COMPANY. UP-TO-DATE BUILDING. OPENING END OF NEXT YEAR. [BY TELEGUAPII. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday No time has been lost by the promoters of the Tongariro National Park hostel scheme, who have formed a company to enter into and accept the lease of a site at Whakapapa, tho terms of which were approved at the beginning of last month by the National Park Hoard. Tho company, which has been registered during the Inst few days, is known as the Tongariro I'ark Tourist Company, Limited. Its registered otlice is at 'liinaru. The capital of the company is £30.000, divided into 30,000 shares of £1 each. The subscribers are as lollows: Mount Cook Motor Company, Limited, 'limar.i, 3000 shares; Mr. 11. L. Wigley, manamndirector of the Mount Cook Motor Com pany, 1000; Sir J. G. Findlay, Wellington, 1000; Mr. E. A. Shrimpton, electrical engineer, Wellington, 1000; Mr. A. A. I'aape, hotelkeeper, Dunedin, 1000; Mr. F. Y. Lysaght, farmer, Geraldine, 1000; Mr. J. W. Grant, runholder, Fairlie, 1000: Mr. C. D. Elms, Fairlie, 1000; Mr. W. CArkle, solicitor, Palmerston, Otago, 1000. The Government has approved the general policy of the National Park Board, and the agreement and lease under the agreement. The syndicate contracts to erect a building to cost, exclusive of furniture, £40.000 as a minimum, with an obligation to spend £60,000 if required. Plans are being prepared, and a start will bo made with the erection of tho building about December next, and it is hoped to open the hostel for business about December, 1929. The proposed hostel will be of striking appearance, and will contain many special features. It will be two or three storeys high, substantially built of concrete blocks reinforced with steel. Iho accommodation will inclutlo a largo lounge 60lt. by 40tt., and a dining 106 m 40ft. by 50lt. Hid total number of bedrooms will be between 75 and 100. Provision will be made in the basement fnr a billiard room, cinema, playroom for children, bakehouse and public store.
