AUSTRALIAN FLAGSHIP.
VISIT TO WELLINGTON. ENTERTAINED BY GOVERNMENT. [nv TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A Government luncheon was tendered to-day to Admiral G. F. Hyde and liis staff of H.M.A.S. Australia, the new flagship of the Australian Navy. Ten members of Parliament were present. Mr. Coates said: "We in New Zealand are inseparably wrapped up with the fortunes of Australians. Wo nro trying to make exactly the same provision in principle for the efficient protection of our trade routes by joining with Australia and other parts of the Empire in methods that will effect that object. Ho congratulated the Prime Minister and people of Australia in taking (lie course they had to ensure that their trade routes would be protected. Trade relations between New Zealand and Australia had always been pleasant, said Mr. Coates, and good feeling among the sister countries was growing more and more along the lines of a general desire of most people in tho Empiro to get together to a greater extent than hitherto. Ho expressed tho wish that tho units of the New Zealand and Australian Navies might meet for the purposes of training and fraternising. The. ship was open for public inspection to-day,, and special arrangements were mado lor parties of school children, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides to visit the vessel.
