RABBIT INDUSTRY.

BREEDING OF ANGORAS. NO GRANTS AVAILABLE. Tho Southern Cross League recently appealed to flip. Government for tho provision of small sections of land on which unemployed ex-soldiers having families and being unfit for heavy work could commence tho rabbit-raising industry. Tho league pointed out that tho raising of Angora rabbits required littlo training, but that a small grant from tho Government and tho canteen fund would bo necessary. In replying to an ex-soldier who applied for tho opportunity of being placecT on a section of land if such a schemo were launched, the Minister of Lands, Hon. A. T). McLeod, has stated that, although ho had announced his willingness to hand over an area of land to enable the schema to bo put into operation, ifc was now seen that the conimitteo which" had been active in this connection required not only a of land, but also a largo sum of public money. As this could not, be provided for in the programme of expenditure for the present, financial year, it was unlikely that tho committee would proceed with the scheme in the meantinte.
