MILFORD BEACH SCHEME.

NOVEL FORM OF CABARET. SANCTION OF COUNCIL SOUGHT. The sanction by the Takapuna Borough Council of tho erection of ship tearooms and :t dancing floor at Milford was sought by a deputation representing the Milford Amusement Company, Limited, at a meeting of the council last evening. On behalf of tho promoters, Mr. C. Pcf.fit outlined tho scheme. The idea of conventional tearooms did not meet with general approval, and it was proposed to construct something which would not detract from the beauty of the surroundings. Milford was without question one of flic finest beaches in (ho world for the. depth of its sand, the tidal rifts and the geniality of the surroundings Several members expressed their approval of the general scheme, subject to certain provisions, including strict managerial supervision. "Takapuna has a high moral reputation, and if. is nonsense to say <lie police can regulate these cabarets," Mr. ,T. Guiniven said. "I consider they are simply lowering the reputation of the borough." "There will be an appalling muddle unless proper provision is made for the parking of cars," said Mr. A. M. Gould. Finally it was decided to grant a licence when applied for, subject to the compliance with certain restricting clauses, including proper managerial control and reasonable access to and from Castor Bay. A sub-committee was appointed to deal with any further application. The Milford Cruising Club wrote with reference to the same matter, strongly opposing a proposal that would interfere with the present free navigation of the estuary. No proposal in that direction had been mado by tho company, it was stated, and the council bad no power to sanction ativ work that would do so.
