SPEED FINE REDUCED.
ERROR OVER SPEED-LIMIT. A successful application for a rehearing was made to Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday by W. Gill, who some time ago was fined £4, with costs, for speeding at 7;P, miles an hour in the Waitemata County district. The. magistrate said justices had imposed tlio lino not knowing the speed-limit in the district had been raised from 30 to 35 miles an hour, and consequently had imposed a heavier fine than was warranted in the circumstances. Ho reduced it to 10s with costs. V. S. Dalton, who was fined £4 on each of two charges of speeding and £3 on a third charge, also applied for a rehearing. The penalties were left unaltered, but on the application of counsel the magistrate consented to cancel the endorsement of defendant's licence. On a further charge of speeding Dalion was ordered to pay costs, the magistrate remarking that the next offence would probably mean tlio cancellation of the licence.
