BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.
PROPOSED SPORTS GROUND, The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, tlio Mayor, Mr. E. G. Skoates, presiding. An offer of 11 acres in Rosebery Avenue for a sports ground was referred lo tho Parks Committee to report upon all available sites suitable for the purpose. It. was suggested a proposal should bo submitted at a poll at the same, timo as tho drainage proposals. A donation of £5 5s was made to tho funds of tho Birkenhead School carnival to complete the • improvement of tho school sports ground. Mrs. J. Bishop, secretary of tho Birkflalo Institute, wroto stating a library had boon opened at tho Birkdale Hall. Tho council voted £2 2s toward tho provision of books. The tender of John Burns and Co., Ltd., at. £1629, was accepted for 4in. cast iron mains and accessories, and that of Briscoo and Co., Ltd., at £l6O, for cast iron mains and accessories for immediate delivery, in connection with water supply roticulation extension. Mr. J. Hughes was appointed sanitary inspector in place of Mr. York, who has been transferred to the position of care taker at Somes Island quarantine station. Appreciation of tho manner in which Mr. York had served tho borough was rocorded. The Nortlicolo Borough Council replied to tho recent requests, agreeing to coOperato in overy way in seeking the installation of tho automatic telophono service. Two additional street lights are to bo placed in Victoria Road East, and one in Vermont Hoad. The traffic inspector is to bo provided with a uniform. Four permits for new buildings wero granted.
