WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.
The Opotiki Institute held their meeting recently, about 50 ladies being present. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mrs. Absolom, the chair was taken by Mrs. Fox. Mrs. McCaldon demonstrated on fowls given by Mrs. Wilson, the art of preparing poultry for the table. Mrs. Hambly gavo a most interesting talk on "Travels Abroad." This was followed by a competition, "A Floral Wedding," arranged by Mrs. Short, the prize winner being Mrs. Quirk. Miss Hollo way gave a demonstration of crayon drawing on georgette, which was followed with much interest. Mrs. Stevenson won the prize in the sugaring competition, arranged by Mrs. Blomfieki. Mrs. Shorty Mrs. Main, Mrs. Davies. Mrs. Burton and Miss Short were hostesses and provided a supper. Three new members were enrolled. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
