MAYOR ESCAPES INJURY.

MR. BAILDON IN ACCIDENT, COLLISION OF MOTOR-VEHICLES. [by telegraph—special, reporter] WELLINGTON. Monday. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. Baildon, had a narrow escape from serious injury to-day when a motor-car in which he was travelling was involved in a collision with a two-ton motor-lorry on the road near Paokakariki. With Mr. W. Higgins, Mr. A. Courfc and Mr. .T. Hodgkins, Mr. Baildon was returning to Wellington from Waikanae. Shortly after leaving Paekakariki, a whirlwind, part- of a local storm, raised such a thick cloud oE dust on the rOad that before either of the drivers could get clear a head-on collision occurred. Tha front wheels and bonnet of the car were badly damaged, and Mr. Baildon was struck on the face and hand by glass from the windscreen, which was shattered, Mr. Baildon was fortunate in escaping with a few small cuts on the face. None of the other passengers was injured. Mr. Baildon, who has been in Wellington in connection with the Auckland Transport Board Bill, returned to Auckland by the limited express to-night.
