"DEATH EXAGGERATED."
RUMOUR AND SIR J. WARD. REPORT CIRCULATED FREELY. [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON. Monday. Dame Rumour reported to the public of Hastings to-day that the Leader of the United Party, Sir Joseph ' f ard, was dead. Following the example of Mark Twain, Sir Joseph Ward is able to say the news of his death is greatly exaggerated. The rumour came to-Wellington in the following telegram to Sir Joseph Ward by the United Party candidate for Hawke's Bay, Mr. G. McKay:—"Report current in Hastings to-day of your death." Sir Joseph Ward telegraphed the following reply:—"l am glad to be able to reply. I am very much alive and in excellent health, as my friends will realise next week."
