ONEHUNGA COUNCIL.

DRAINING LAKE ST. JOHN. The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening, tho Mayor, Mr. W. C. ColdicuU, presiding. The Waiatarua Drainage Board advised tho protest against tho draining of Lako St. John would receive consideration. The Mayor said numerous letters had been received commending the action of the council in objecting to tho lako being destroyed. No one. could prove the Onehunga water supply depended upon tho lake in any way, but in tho general interests the lake should bo preserved. Mr. jo S. Morton suggested the position should bo carefully watched, and a vigorous protest niado if there were any attempts to empty tho lake. The letter was received. A donation of £5 was made to the Onehunga branch of tho Plunket Society, members eulogising tho good work dono by the local nurse. Tho One Treo Ilill Road Board wrote stating it had been decided not to proceed with repairs to Rockfield Road, pending a decision by tho council in regard to maintenance. Tho council adopted a recommendation by the Streets Committeo agreeing to tho board repairing tho road at a cost not exceeding £75. The Manukau Yacht Club wroto taking exception to statements made lejjarding its (ailuro to contribute toward tho cost of Cornwallis Wharf, as it had raised £2O. The Mayor said it was quite true the Yacht Club had assisted, but the Cruising Club had failed to do its share. . Eight building permits wero issued during tho fortnight.
