PRISON FOR ASSAULT.

CHILD STRUCK BY GLASS. A charge of assaulting his wifo and child was admitted by James B. Stewart in the Onehunga, Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. J. E. Green and F. C. Soar, J.P.'s. Sergeant J. A. Crtiickshank said Stewart threw a glass (uml)ler at his wifo at his home at To I.'apapa on Saturday ' evening. The tumbler missed his wife and struck the child on the face, helow (lie eye, drawing blood. 'Constable IJ inton was called, and found Stewart under the influence of liquor. Accused threatened to "do them all in," and turned on the gas-burners. Accused said the trouble was due to drink and asked for another chance. Sentence of 14 days' imprisonment on each of two charges was imposed, the terms to bo cumulative.
