BISHOP OF MELANESIA.
LONG JOURNEY TO TAHITI. In order to travel from Suva, Fiji, to Tahiti, in the course of a periodical tour of his diocese, Bishop L. S. Ivempthorne, Bishop of Polynesia, had to come to Auckland by tlio Niagara, and he will join the Maunganui at "Wellington for Tahiti today. Bishop Kempthorne's diocese is widely scattered., embracing Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, Gilbert Islands, and Tahiti. " Our work is progressing steadily," Bishop Kempt home said. "We need more men and more money—our two essentials —but, I have not come to New Zealand to beg this time, so I will say no more about that aspect of tho work. Next year wo hope to erect a new church at Nukualofa, in the Tongan group." On his way back to his headquarters at Suva, Bishop Ivempthorne will visit Rarotonga, and ho expects to seo Auckland again early next year.
