IRISH CASTLE FIRE.
TWO ARRESTS REPORTED. PRESS WELCOMES PRINCESS. Australian und N.Z. Press Association. (Received October 7, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 6. Princess Mary and llier husband, Viscount Lascelles. left Liverpool last evening by the steamer Lady Limerick for Dublin. They are due there at 8 a.m. to-day. Two arrests have been made at Loughroa in connection with the lire at Lord | Lascclles' Irish seat, Portumna. The Irish Times says Princess Mary's informal visit to Southern Ireland before she goes North is an act of faith in the goodwill and courtesy of the South. "Wo might have supposed that not even the most illiterate fanatic could apply a political aspect to her visit, yet what other motive for the Portumna fire can be conceived ?" The Morning Post says the fire at Portumna occurred after a bitter attack against Lord Lascclles and Princess Mary in the Republican press, but the Princess, with characteristic courage, will not be prevented from visiting her husband's Irish home. When Princess Mary and her- husband arrive at Dublin this morning, they will motor to the Vice-Regal lodge, where they will be the guests of the Governor-General, Mr. James McNeil, and Mrs. McNeil, until they proceed .to Portumna by motor. Their original arrangement was not to stay in Dublin, but to proceed direct to the train from the boat. Great interest has been aroused by the visit ot a member of the Royal I'amily to the Free State. There is some Republican criticism, but there is every reason to believe that Princess Mary is assured of a welcome.
