TOUR OF PRINCES.

VISIT TO EAST AFRICA. DEPARTURE NEXT MONTH. (Received August 13, 9.5 p.m.) British Wireless. RUGBY, Aug. 12. The Prince of Wales will leave London with his brother, the Duke of Gloucester, on September 6 for a tour of East Africa. Their Royal Highnesses will travel overland to Marseilles. There they will join the P. and O. liner Kaisar-I-Hind for Egypt. They will there transfer to -tlie British India liner Malda for Mombasa, where they "will be due on September 28.

The visit of the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Gloucester to Africa will consist chiefly of a long motor tour through Kenya, Tanganyika, and Uganda. At the end of it the Princes will follow the caravan route southwards through Rhodesia and the Union of South Africa to Capetown, where they may spend Christmas with the Governor, the Earl of Athlone. Only the broad outlines of the visit have been planned in advance, for it is to be regarded officially as a private one, in which certain public ceremonies may he included should the Princes desire them when they arrive. Detailed arrangements of this kind will not be made until after they have landed, and it has been mado known by the Governor ot Kenya that they wish their visit to bo regarded as a holiday. The party will be a small one, probably not exceeding 12 in number, and it is likely that the column of motor-cars in which the long journey is to be made will number only five. The tour through Rhodesia to "Capetown is expected to occupy three weeks, though this may be exceeded if the rains cause delays. The route covers at last 2800 miles, and though the track is well marked and much used" in these days the travelling will bo comparatively rough. Care has been taken that motor-cars suitable for these hard conditions are obtained, and over a great part of this tour the Princes expect to have to put up with such comfort as there may lie in rest bungalows or veld huts. For days they will be out of reach of anv hotel.

On this part, of the journey, 100, it is unlikely tliab the Princes will attempt, to work to a time-table, for nr>t only is there (he possibility of delay caused by weaFher but. also the likelihood that the Prince of Wales may make detours in order to visit interesting places off the route or to make game-shooting expeditions.
