GAMBLING CLUBS RAIDED.
NEW ORLEANS SENSATION.
PANIC AMONG THE PATRONS. FASHIONABLE WOMEN FAINT. GUARDS BURN EQUIPMENT. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received August 13, 5.5 p.m.) NEW ORLEANS, Aug, 13. Acting under the orders of (he Governor of Louisiana. Mr. 0. H. Simpson, a party of heavily-armed members of the National Guard raided two fashionable clubs on the outskirts of New Orleans and seized an elaborate gambling equipment The raids caused a panic among-the 225 patrons of the clubs, many of the women among whom fainted and generally added to the excitement. Fifty men attacked a newspaper photographer, whom the guardsmen rescued in an unconscious condition. The gambling equipment was destroyed and burned in a bonfire.
A considerable amount of money left on the tables was seized, and will probably revert to the State.
