THE KING'S BIRTHDAY.

HOLIDAY ON MONDAY. MANY ATTRACTIONS ARRANGED. THE RACES AT ELLERSLIE. The sixty-third anniversary of tho birth of King George, which falls to-morrow, will be celebrated on Monday as a general holiday. As is usual, Auckland has much to entertain the holiday crowd, and chief among the attractions will be the Auckland Racing. Club's winter meeting, which commences at Ellerslie to-day. If the weather continues to be fine record crowds are expected to find pleasure out-of-doors. During the past two or three days there has been a big influx of visifors from the South and the accommodation at all city hotels is taxed. Hundreds more are expected to arrive by trains to-day. The accommodation question is mado all the more serious owing to the fact that the Aorangi is due from Sydney on Monday with a large number of passengers. Many people are taking advantage of tho holiday on Monday to spend a few days away from Auckland. Largo numbers left Auckland last evening. Every seat on the limited express to Wellingwas booked up in advance and nine coaches of the second express were fully booked. It was found necessary at the last minute to add three additional coaches to the second train to accommodate all those desiring to travel. Those travelling included many family parties bound for a variety of destinations, including the National Park. Included among tho attractions for Monday will be the largest naval and military ceremonial parade held in Auckland for several years. The units will assemble on tho Domain and will be inspected by the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson. King's Empire veterans will be the guests of the Auckland City Council, the Patriotic Association and the Returned Soldiers' Association at lunch in the Town Hall. This function will also be attended by the GovernorGeneral.

Thousands of people will turn their steps toward Ellerslie, Jmt various sports' gatherings are expected to attract many. Most of the golf clubs have arranged matches, as also have some of the bowling clubs. The Auckland Association representative football team will play a team representing the Waikato at Blandford Park on Monday afternoon, the games being preceded by a curtain-raiser between sides representing the Navy and Auckland B representatives. An Auckland representative Rugby team will play a team representing the Waikato at Hamilton, while League and hockey matches have also been arranged.
