CITY SALARY INCREASES.
RESOLUTION OF PROTEST. A resolution protesting against the recent increases in salaries of certain officials of the Auckland. City Council was passed at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners. The opinion was expressed that the present was not a suitable time to increase the salaries of already wellpaid servants. Prevailing unemployment and consequent distress of a large number of ratepayers - was held to be sufficient cause to judge the increase an unwise one. The text of the resolution, which has been forwarded by the secretary, Mr. T. Bloodworth, to the City Council, is as follows:—"This union protests against the recent action of the Auckland City Council in raising the salaries of already highly-paid officials at a time when it finds'it necessary, through alleged shortage of funds, to discharge numbers of workmen."
