PRESS CONFERENCE.
MODIFIED RATES SOUGHT. RECOMMENDATIONS TO LEAGUE. Australian Press Association—United Service PARIS, May '/5. A sub-committee of the League of Nations considered resolutions submitted by a conference of newspaper experts which met at Geneva in August. Representatives of the postal administrations of the principal countries in Europe also attended. It was decided to recommend the Telegraphic Conference to bo held in 1930 to establish that a category of urgent press telegrams at treble the ordinary rates should bo treated exactly as urgent private messages. The committee considered a recommendation of the conference covering terminal charges operating in Australia and other countries. It decided that while it refrained from expressing an opinion on the domestic policy involved, it would suggest to the Governments concerned that they should consider the matter with a view to ascertaining whether modifications of these charges were possible.
