NEW CITY BUILDING.
erection in fort street. TOTAL OF £40,000 INVOLVED. The rapidly-increasing number of new buildings within the city will be further added to within the next few weeks, when work will commence upon the construction of a five-storey block of shops and offices next to the warehouse of L. D. Nathan and Company, Limited, in Fort Street. An entirely new style will mark the architecture of the building, which is being erected for a private company at a total cost of £40,000. It will have a frontage of 66ft. to Fort Street, and a depth of 80ft. The facade will conform tp the Renaissance period, and will be constructed with fire-clay tile facing and finished with unique cut brickwork. Polished Whangarei marble will be used on the ground floor, and the panelling throughout will be of oak. Provision will be made for several shops, and a handsome entrance will give access to a spacious vestibule and stairway. The new building will replace several old structures adjacent and to the west of the L. D. Nathan warehouse. Mr. A. Sinclair O'Connor is the architect.
